Job Title: Project Technician/Project Engineer – Construction
Location: Sugar Grove, Illinois
Summary of Duties:
Candidate may possess between five (5) and ten (10) years of construction inspection experience. IDOT project construction inspection experience and a minimum of a technical degree preferred. Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills are required. Training/certifications related to construction engineering a plus. Must possess a valid driver's license.
This position will:
- Under general supervision, review project specifications and conduct necessary work required for moderately complex plan preparation, acceptance testing, evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports.
- Direct and prepare specifications and bid documents under the general direction of engineering or project management staff.
- Conduct materials testing and analysis, and prepare reports detailing tests conducted and results.
- Survey project sites to obtain and analyze topographical details of sites.
- Calculate dimensions, profile specifications, and quantities of materials such as steel, concrete, and asphalt.
- Inspect construction site to determine conformance of site to design specifications.
- Assist engineers to ensure that projects meet established local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Work cooperatively with other CADD and Design or Field Technicians and/or Engineers to complete assigned work.

Job Title: Project Engineer/Civil
Summary of Duties:
Minimum of a B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification along with strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills are required. Preferred candidate should possess Phase I and II design experience and have between five and ten years relative engineering experience. The candidate should be familiar with the IDOT Phase I Project Development Report process including capacity analysis, crash analysis, environmental coordination, location drainage studies and Phase II plans, specifications and estimate development. Phase II experience should include drainage, traffic signal and lighting design for federally funded projects. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
The Project Engineer is responsible for completing assigned tasks under the direct supervision of a Project Manager and/or other Project Engineers. The Project Engineer is expected to apply the concepts learned through required education, and practical experience to solve specific engineering related tasks as assigned and seeks guidance from more senior engineering staff and applies as necessary.
- Designs portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling and CADD technology.
- Completes calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilizes computers in order to solve problems.
- Prepares specification materials through the use of research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection and payment of items specific to a project.
- Works with CADD Technicians in order to complete design details and plan sets.
- Performs research and writes summary reports which are used in the completion of project work or inspection.
- Assists in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
- Completes field observation, inspection and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
- Communicates with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff.
