EEI receives APWA Chicago Metro Chapter, Southwest Branch Project of the Year Award
Engineering Enterprises, Inc. recently accepted the American Public Works Association Chicago Metro Chapter, Southwest Branch 2007 Project of the Year Award for Water Works System Improvements in the category “Environmental, $2 Million, but less than $10 Million.
Historically, the Village of Minooka`s water works system provided safe and reliable water. However, as Village population and water demand increased, water works system components were getting closer to their respective capacities and issues of radium and hydrogen sulfide developed.
The Village of Minooka, recognizing the need for additional water supply and treatment, began a process for choosing a consulting engineer that led to the selection of Engineering Enterprises, Inc. The improvements included design and construction of two water supply wells and treatment plants and a SCADA system. Each 1,000 gpm well (No. 8 & 9) is a deep Ironton-Galesville water well equipped with a 400 hp motor. At each well site is a 1.44 MGD cation exchange water treatment plant, each consisting of three 8-foot diameter cation exchange units, one brine tank, one surge tank, chemical feed equipment, laboratory equipment, piping and controls.
Total capital cost for all of the improvements was approximately $5.23 million. The final construction cost for the project was approximately 1% below the bid amount – significant because there were four main contractors and several sub-contractors with whom the Village and EEI coordinated.
