EEI Chairman, Peter Wallers, PE, CFM Receives Multiple Awards
Congratulations to Peter Wallers, P.E., CFM, Chairman of the Board of Engineering Enterprises, Inc. (EEI) on being chosen for the Illinois Section of American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) Water Professional of the Year Award and for the Illinois Section of American Society of Civil Engineers (ISASCE) Civil Engineer of the Year Award.
Pete graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Marquette University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Wisconsin and Illinois. He is also a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM). Pete was named the President and CEO of EEI in 2006 and became Chairman of the Board in 2020.
The ISAWWA award is presented to a professional in the water industry (engineer, lab analyst, designer, representative, educator, etc.) that has demonstrated dedication and has motivated others to pursue a career in the water industry. It is selected from nominations by Section Members. Pete was presented the award at WATERCON, ISAWWA’s annual conference, on August 10th.
Pete’s 44 year and counting career has been dedicated to improving the lives of residents within the communities he has had the opportunity to work for. He has knowledge of total water (potable water, wastewater, and stormwater), but also all other community infrastructure components. These are strengths that make Pete a well-rounded engineer that can see the big picture.
Anyone that knows Pete knows that his true passion is water and finding a sustainable source for all. He is heavily involved in regional water supply planning for Northeastern Illinois and has a knack for building regional consensus.
The ISASCE award is presented to a professional that advances the civil engineering profession, provides guidance to future and junior civil engineers, and is heavily involved in civic and humanitarian activities.
Pete’s dedication to the engineering profession, his staff and his community exceed expectations. In addition to numerous leadership roles in technical associations, Pete is a Trustee on the Oswego Library Board, a member of the Kane County Judicial and Public Safety Planning and Technology Commission, Charter Member of the Montgomery Rotary Club, President of the Montgomery Foundation, Board Member of the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation, member of the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry Advisory Board and volunteer for the annual Montgomery Fest, Sugar Grove Corn Boil and Montgomery River Run.
According to Jeff Freeman, CEO, “For those of us at EEI that get to work with Pete on a daily basis, we see how he sets a great example of how to approach an infrastructure challenge and how to be a good human being. After reading the eleven award nomination letters from former and current local and statewide elected officials, planning and policy advocates, community staff members, a statewide groundwater scientist, a 5th grade teacher and leaders of philanthropic organizations, it is clear that Pete has made a huge impact on the lives of many Illinoisans.”
ISASCE was set to publicly recognize Pete at an award dinner in mid-October, however, with the on-going COVID-19 pandemic the awards committee is currently working through other options in order to keep everyone healthy and safe.
