Mercury Seals in Water Well Pumping Equipment
The State of Illinois recently passed a Public Act that will prohibit the sale and distribution of submersible water well motors with mercury seals after July 1, 2012. The includes Byron Jackson/Flowserve type H motors. Although immediate replacement of mercury seal motors is not required, it is important to understand the potential ramifications of this legislation. EEI has prepared a white paper that outlines the details of the Public Act, the use of mercury seals in a contingency plan to account for the future replacement of mercury seal motors.
